David Young is an artist with experience in music, artistic direction, sport, social enterprise and mental health.
David was the founding artistic director of the cross-artform company, Aphids, from 1994-2009. He was also artistic director of Chamber Made Opera from 2009-2013, and festival director of Next Wave in 2001-2002.
As a composer he has worked with many musicians and ensembles in Australia and around the world, notably in Japan, Denmark and Belgium. He has a special interest in graphic forms of music notation, his most recent work employing watercolour.
David co-founded the charity, Social Firms Australia, which supported community organisaitons to set up businesses that employ people with and without disabilities. He also worked for the Mental Illness Fellowship in psychosocial rehabilitation and employment support.
Sport has always been an important part of his life, progressing from competing in and coaching gymnastics, to teaching tai chi, and completing a marathon in Iceland. He has cycled from Berlin to Copenhagen, and goes swimming as much as possible.
Born in Australia, he now lives in Berlin and has trained as an Alexander Technique teacher, working with people to realise their full potential. He practises at Berlin's Zentrum-für-Alexander-Technik and his private studio in a range of modes including one-on-one coaching, masterclasses and workshops.
