2011 ISCM World New Music in Zagreb: Australian works selected

Hindson's
Crime and Punishment (2010) for double bass and
strings will be performed at the 2011 ISCM World New Music Days
in Zagreb, Croatia, in April. This work was commissioned by
Barbara Blackman for the Australian Chamber Orchestra with Maxime
Bibeau as soloist. It was premiered by the ACO on 11 March
2010.
Crime and Punishment was selected from the Australian
ISCM Section's submission to the festival, which also included
the following works: James
Ledger:
Neon for orchestra; Jenna Cave: A stranger in
Helsinki for big band; Jane Hammond: Dancing with
Ghosts for wind symphony; Brad
Gill: Pillars (1) for percussion trio; and Ros
Bandt:
Tragoudia 1 and 2 for habiouli (shepherd's
flute), tarhu (original long necked spikefiddle) and soundscape
of goat recordings.
Also performed during the festival will be the new work Manifesto pour la paix for solo saxophone and ensemble by Katia Beaugeais (NSW), winner of the 2010 ISCM-IAMIC Young Composers Award. Beaugeais will perform in this work as soloist.
The 2011 World New Music Days will take place as part of the 26th Music Biennale Zagreb on 7-17 April.
