Jazz pianist and composer Andrea Keller and composer and sound artist Julian Day are among the nine lucky winners of this year's APRA Professional Development Awards.

Held every two years, the APRA PDAs create opportunities for emerging composers and songwriters. Winners are offered career support worth $15,000 each, plus other prizes, in the following categories: Popular Contemporary (3 Awards); Jazz; Classical; Film and Television; Country; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander; and Dance/Electronic.

Julian Day said about his Award, 'I'm totally blown away by this, especially considering my outstanding fellow finalists. It comes at the perfect time, as this year I have a one-off visa to live and work in the States. The money will help fund many things, including new work, project development, mentorships and, of course, crazy New York rent.'

Andrea Keller said, 'I've been pondering so many ideas and possibilities for my music, and this award will finally make them a possibility. I'm so excited and thankful for this.'

The Australian Music Centre is one of APRA's partner organisations for the Professional Development Awards.
