Art Music Fund - applications are now open for $100,000 in grants

Australian and New Zealand art music composers again have the chance to share in $100,000 worth of funding to create new commissioned work, as applications open for the third round of funding from the APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund. Applications close on 20 February 2018 at 5:00pm AEDT.

Funding is available for the creation of commissioned work that is innovative, displays professional compositional craft and represents a benchmark of excellence in its field. The intention is to support composers to create works with a long artistic life.

Previous recipients have come from a range of art music backgrounds, from improvisational jazz to sound art to contemporary classical music. Substantial works often take multiple years to complete, and the first commissions financed through the Art Music Fund are now coming to life, including Lisa Illean's piece Cantor for voice and ensemble (recently premiered at Carriageworks by Ensemble Offspring), James Hullick's electroacoustic CityTopias that will premiere at Melbourne Music Week on 17 November, and Eve Klein's operatic Vocal Womb that will have its world premiere in Tasmania during the MOFO festival early in 2018.

2016 recipient James Hullick comments, 'The Art Music Fund is a moment in Australian history where composers working outside the square finally get some kind acknowledgement of their incredible contribution to our diverse and technologized 21st century culture'.

Applications deadline is 20 February, and successful applicants will be notified at the end of April.
