Australian music on ABC Classic FM in August 2014
The live highlight of the August schedule is your chance to join Speak Percussion in a free late-night concert live on New Music Up Late. Featured composers include expatriate Australians Thomas Meadowcroft and Matthew Shlomowitz as well as the members of Speak Percussion themselves. If you're in Melbourne on Saturday 16 August, just come to the Iwaki Auditorium in the ABC Southbank Centre between 10 and 10.20pm. The concert and broadcast starts at 10.30pm sharp.
Also live on the airwaves this month are ABC Classic FM's live and almost-live broadcasts from this year's Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville. The program includes a number of recent and classic works by Elena Kats-Chernin, including String Quartet No 1 (Joyce's Mob) (2013) and Scherzino for Piano Quartet (2013).

And the Australian Youth Orchestra play Graeme Koehne's Trumpet Concerto with James Morrison.

There are Off the Record programs featuring the music and ideas of sound artist, curator and critic Gail Priest and composer and ensemble director Alan Holley. And a recent studio session of music by Thomas Reiner. That's all on Saturdays in August. The Friday digital radio and online programs present studio records and interviews with five Australian musicians working in Europe The featured artists are: Vienna-based bassoonist Lorelei Dowling, Paris-based saxophonist Joshua Hyde, Cologne-based clarinettist Carl Rosman, London- based pianist Zubin Kanga and ex-Amsterdam-based violinist Anna McMichael. The music is a mixture of Australian and international repertoire.
Online the latest addition to the Rewind collection is a 1985 ABC studio recording of the never-danced ballet score Perisynthion by Malcolm Williamson, commissioned by Sir Robert Helpmann for the Australian Ballet in 1974.
