Australian music on ABC Classic FM in February 2014
February is a month where we focus on the Canberra SoundOut Festival in New Music Up Late - a feast of improvised and experimental music from our nation's capital. Our live broadcast from Eugene Goossens at the ABC Centre in Ultimo features a set from Australian-German trio Great Waitress (you're welcome to join us on 22 February - doors open at 10pm - or tune in to ABC Classic FM from 10.30pm). Our Off the Record for February focuses on the work of Israeli-Australian composer Yitzhak Yedid.
Other highlights include two works from Australian pianist/composer Ian Munro - both piano trios: Book of Lullabies, which had its world premiere at the 2013 Huntington Music Festival, and Tales from Old Russia, performed here by the Streeton Trio. Later in the month the Kelemen Quartet from Hungary perform Ross Edwards's String Quartet No 3 Summer Dances as part of their 2014 Musica Viva tour.
Online there are podcasts of music from the 2013 Bendigo Festival of Exploratory Music with works from festival director David Chisholm, along with creations by Jeanette Little and Samuel Dunscombe.
