Chamber Music Australia's Australian New Works Award - winners
The winners of Chamber Music Australia's inaugural Australian New Works Award are Michael Bakrnčev for his Piano Trio No. 2 Janino, and Connor D'Netto for his String Quartet No. 2 in E minor. The award was established as part of the 7th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition with the support of Monash University and CMA Chairman, Julian Burnside AO QC. Bakrnčev will receive $10,000 for his trio, while the Award for the string quartet is $15,000.
Connor's and Michael's winning compositions were selected from a strong field of over forty submissions. The jury for the Award consisted of composers Mary Finsterer and Paul Grabowsky, and Kim Williams AM. The new works will be premiered in the finals of the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition on Saturday 18 July at Melbourne Recital Centre.
