Memorial concert celebrates Richard Meale

Richard Meale's life and work will be celebrated in a free memorial concert at the Sydney Conservatorium on 14 February at 3pm. The composer of Voss and one of the most important creative artists of his generation, Meale passed away on 23 November last year.
The concert program ranges from Meale's very early Rhapsody (1950), his modernist Flute Sonata (1960), the piano solo Coruscations (1970) and Cantilena Pacifica (5th movement of String Quartet No. 2, 1987) through to the composer's more recent works, Arabesque (2001) for solo trumpet and Intrada (2003) for organ, trumpets and percussion. The performing musicians are Andrew Evans, Paul Goodchild, Brett McKern, Daryl Pratt, Alison Eddington, Clemens Leske, Matt Bailey, Geoffrey Collins, Belinda Jezek, John Martin and the Goldner String Quartet.
The program also includes a 14-minute film The Journey of Voss, courtesy of the National Film and Sound Archive.
