The National Library of Australia is seeking help in collecting current and retrospective Dame Joan Sutherland (1926-2010) memorabilia. Dame Joan, Australia's great coloratura soprano, died on the 10th October 2010 in Switzerland after a prestigious international career spanning some forty years.

The National Library of Australia already holds an extensive collection of materials relating to Joan Sutherland and her conductor and husband Richard Bonynge. This includes music and manuscripts, but also an extensive collection of theatre programs and associated ephemera on Dame Joan Sutherland's international and Australian careers. A recent surprising 'find' includes a cache of programs from the Royal Opera House tour to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in July-August 1953, with Sutherland as the Priestess in Aida (Verdi) and as Penelope, Lady Rich in Gloriana (Britten).

The collection is, however, incomplete. The National Library of Australia appeals to all Joan Sutherland lovers who might have programs of international and Australian tributes or her other performances, or other related memorabilia, to contact the National Library's Ephemera Officer Janey Wallace, National Library of Australia, Canberra ACT 2600, phone: +61 (0) 2 6262 1121, email .

Please first check the Joan Sutherland finding aid for what programs are already in the collection.
