Clairaudient / Claire Edwardes, Melody Eötvös, Damien Ricketson, Marcus Whale, Tom Smith, Steve Reich (Move)

Clairaudient is percussionist Claire Edwardes' fifth CD, 'a collaboration of percussive inspiration alongside poetry, vocals, clarinet and electronic sound'. The album features works by Australian composers Melody Eötvös, Damien Ricketson and Marcus Whale & Tom Smith, as well as Claire's own arrangement of Steve Reich's Vermont Counterpoint, among others.

The majority of the works on the CD were written for Claire and recorded in close collaboration with the composers.

The Sonata Project / Bernadette Harvey, piano (Tall Poppies)

Bernadette Harvey's Sonata Project is a commissioning program of new large-scale compositions for solo piano, and on this album she performs the brand-new works by three female composers: Melody Eötvös, Aristea Mellos and Jane Stanley, as well as a 2015 work by Ross Edwards.

Fairy Tales Monsters and Wild Animals - Meredith Connie, solo guitar - works by Connie, Houghton, Rak et al. (Move)

Made for young and old, Meredith Connie's performances on this CD evoke fantastical worlds through music by Phillip Houghton, Meredith Connie herself, and others. Connie's work In the Wild is a series of short character pieces depicting animals from around the world, paired with poetry by David Elliott, while Houghton's 2002 work Gothica is about dark fantasy creatures from vampires and werewolves and zombies.

Celebrating twenty years / Melbourne Composers' League

This handsome 3-CD set celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Melbourne Composers' League, with works by no fewer than 23 composers. The emphasis here is on recent composition, with about half of the works from this decade, although also included are several works that predate the organisation. Substantial works on the album are, among others, Brenton Broadstock's 2010 ensemble work My Feet Want to Dance But My Eyes Want to Sleep, Caerwen Martin's recent The Beauty of Now (2016) for violin and piano, Clare Maclean's Kyrie (2014) for piano, vibraphone and percussion, and Haydn Reeder's Interplay (2002-04) for guitar and electronics.

Loose, wet, perforated : A morality play in four ordeals / Nicholas Vines, Guerilla Opera (Navona Records)

Composer Nicholas Vines's surreal opera Loose, Wet, Perforated was commissioned by the Boston-based experimental opera company Guerilla Opera, and premiered in 2011. This recording coincides with a new production of Loose, Wet, Perforated that involves video projection and audience interaction. The work, whose libretto was also written by Vines, is a satirical and metaphorical take on the medieval genre of the morality play.

Trichotomy - Live with String Quartet

Recorded live at the Declassified Music Festival in Brisbane, this digital live album features a suite of music composed by Trichotomy for the trio (Sean Foran, piano; John Parker, drums; Samuel Vincent, acoustic bass) and string quartet (Sarah Curro and Rebecca Adler, violins; Bernard Hoey, viola; Dan Curro, cello).
