Opportunity: AAO's Creative Music Intensive - Focus India

Opportunity: AAO's Creative Music Intensive - Focus India

Applications for the 2015 instalment of the Australian Art Orchestra's Creative Music Intensive program are now open. The focus country for 2015 is India, and the residency will take place in Tasmania on 12-22 September. Deadline for applications is 29 May 2015.

The Creative Music Intensive residency is a unique professional development program exploring the meetings of cultures and practice, for musicians from Tasmania, across Australia and from abroad.

Following the success of the Creative Music Intensive at the Tanks Arts Centre in 2014, the 2015 project will take place in a new regional setting at Tarraleah in the Tasmania's Central Highlands. The cultural focus will be India, with longtime AAO collaborator Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani in residence. The ten-day practice-based residency focuses on cross-cultural collaboration and is made up of daily lectures, small ensemble workshops and open group practical sessions. These sessions will explore the meeting points of classical Indian music and Western jazz and improvisation, as well as embracing the different techniques and histories.
