Opportunity: Asian Composers League Young Composer Competition 2015

Australian composers under the age of 30 are invited to submit scores for the Asian Composers League Young Composer Competition. The competition forms part of the 33rd Asian Composers League (ACL) Festival & Conference in the Philippines, 2-8 November 2015. There are monetary prizes of US$500, $300 and $200, but more important is the chance to have a festival performance and to be able to travel there and meet other composers. Deadline for submissions is Monday, 22 September, 2014 [delivery deadline].

The Melbourne Composers' League will select one young composer to represent Australia at the upcoming festival's competition. Composers should be Australian citizens, or permanent residents, and born after 8 November 1985. Available instrumentation: standard Western instruments mixed with Asian instrument (up to 6 performers). The piece may be up to a maximum of 7 minutes in duration.

The score, along with the title of the work, the composer's name in English on the cover and the following information (a-k) must be submitted. The information should be written in English and, where applicable, Chinese names should include the equivalent Chinese ideographs.

b. Nationality, date of birth(copy of the passport)
c. Address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address
d. Title of the work
e. Year composed
f. Duration, instrumentation
g. Biography of composer (maximum 150 words)
h. Program notes (maximum 150 words)
i. Has the work been performed? If yes, where? Has the work been performed in the Philippines? If yes, when?
j. CD of the work (if available)
k. Photo of the composer

A total of US$1,000 cash prizes will be given to up to 3 winners. Winner of the first prize will be invited to write a new piece to be premiered during the next ACL festival (no additional commission fee is involved). The ACL Philippines Section will provide hotel accommodation for the young composers for the duration of the festival.
