Tura New Music 25 years
Tura New Music celebrates its 25 years of activity with a series of concerts and events on 21 November - 6 December. Founded in 1987, the Perth-based not-for-profit organisation produces events, and acts as an advocate as well as a resource centre for new music. Tura's yearly program of events includes the Totally Huge New Music Festival (organised for the next time on 9-18 August 2013), the Sounds Outback festival, Scale Variable chamber music series, Club Zho, as well as touring and artist-in-residence programs.
The first concert to mark Tura's 25th birthday takes place on 22 November and features Sydney's Ensemble Offspring and works by Matthew Shlomowitz and Marcus Whale, among others.
Fractal shale, on 1 December, is an ambitious project developed by Kynan Tan under the guidance of the renowned Australian audio-visual artist, Robin Fox. The work takes the synaesthetic relationships found in Fox's work for laser and oscilloscope and blends this with computer-generated imagery, processed video footage and sudden bursts of colour - resulting in 'an immersive, synaesthetic assault on the senses'.
Perth-based group Decibel salutes Tura on 3 December with a concert that focuses on the way music of different genres responds to acoustic space. Highlighting works with jazz, indie, concrete, minimalist and glitch influences, the concert integrates the acoustics of the concert space - WA Museum's Hackett Hall Gallery - as part of the works.
Clocked Out performs at PICA on 5 December in an event featuring their newest composition. Time crystals explores perpetual motion, pattern, and crystalline structures through an intricately designed constellation of percussive and pianistic sounds by the duo's Erik Griswold and Vanessa Tomlinson.
The 100th Club Zho event doubles up as the official birthday party on the evening of 4 December
