The cinematic style of trumpeter/composer Nadje Noordhuis has led to innovative collaborations with musicians, artists and film-makers. For over fifteen years, she has been dedicated to writing and arranging original music.

Recent commissions include compositions for jazz artist Sara Caswell (violinist for Esperanza Spalding's Chamber Music Society), new music ensemble ExhAust, and the early music ensemble ThroughBass. Her suite for this Sydney-based ensemble, Magpie Baby, was subsequently made into a children's book and CD set, and published by Captain Honey in 2014. In 2010, she was selected as a Carnegie Hall Young Artist, participating in a workshop intensive with trumpeter/composer Dave Douglas. Her 13-piece Irish-flavoured composition was premiered as the concert finale. Noordhuis was the 2009 commissioned artist for New York's Festival of New Trumpet (FONT), and presented a concert of original music. Arrangements of her music for big band have also been performed at multiple university concerts in Canada.

In 2002 Noordhuis was first commissioned to compose an accompaniment for a series of photographs. Her suite for strings, percussion and trumpet was subsequently performed by her new music group. As part of the Foreign Exchange Film and Music Festival, held in New York in 2005, she performed her original score during a screening of the award-winning Australian short film, The Projectionist. During her Master's of Music studies at Manhattan School of Music, Noordhuis undertook all elective film scoring classes, and composed for diverse projects, ranging from all-MIDI scores to writing for combined big band and orchestra. She studied composition under the tutelage of Ludmilla Ulehla.

Noordhuis' lyrical compositions and haunting trumpet sound are showcased on her debut album, Nadje Noordhuis, released on Little Mystery Records in 2012, her duo album with pianist Luke Howard, Ten Sails, released in 2015, and her duo album with vibraphonist James Shipp, Indigo, released in 2017.
