His interest in performing contemporary music has led to over 70 pieces written for him by composers in Australia and overseas and he has appeared as soloist and/or conductor with orchestras, percussion ensembles, choirs, dance groups, and theatre presentations. Through involvement in different cultural expressions of music he has developed some unique playing techniques.

He has performed in International Festivals and in major music academies and concert halls throughout Europe, the Americas, Australia, Asia and the Middle East, and has worked in collaboration with filmmakers, theatre directors and visual artists to produce performance theatre events and cinematic and theatrical productions. He has also produced and presented concerts with lighting and staging innovations.

He initiated and implemented percussion teaching programs, syllabus, curricula and examination parameters in the SA Education Department and private schools (Years 8-12); Tertiary and Further Education School of Music; Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra percussionists and Royal Guard of Oman Steelband.

He pioneered and developed the concept of teaching instrumental music by Distance Education mode, tutored at International Percussion Workshops, and was Head of Percussion for the private orchestra of the Sultan of Oman. He introduced steelband and taiko to South Australia, and steelband to the Middle East.

He has written tutors on Percussion and Rhythm, and composed and arranged for percussion solo and ensemble, taiko and steelband. He has formed various percussion and chamber ensembles, and performed across a range of genres on the gamut of instruments in a multiplicity of contexts. He is currently researching new parameters in the presentation of percussion performances and extended techniques of playing.

He has received Sounds Australia Awards for Most Significant Contribution for the Presentation of Australian Music, an Australia Council Fellowship, and DAAD and PPCA Travel Scholarships to present Australian compositions overseas.
