Marian Stankiewicz (1952-1977) : Associate Artist
Born in Hobart on 13th August, 1952, Marian Stankiewicz started his brief musical career at the age of fifteen by playing guitar with his father's dance band. He enrolled at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in 1972 to study classical guitar and composition, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1976.
After graduation, Stankiewicz taught classical guitar at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music, and appeared in a number of concert performances. He continued to play the guitar with local rock bands and Polish folk music groups. Stankiewicz was interested in a wide variety of compositional styles and techniques, including Renaissance, electronic and avant-garde music as well as more popular styles.
He died in 1977, at the age of twenty-five.
