Liza Lim doesn't like program notes. Nor does she find it edifying to talk about her music or 'the funny little ideas' that go through her head when she's working on a new piece. Throughout our phone conversation she laughed and apologised for being inarticulate or not quite knowing how to say things. What's the point of all this talk when the piece in question, Immer fliessender, hasn't been played yet? It's a bit like listening to a radio presenter to work out what he looks like: the expectations rarely match the reality. And so music is music; it's not words about music.
