The Totally Huge New Music Festival spans the spectrum from ring tones to sludge-doom rock, writes Victoria Laurie

CAT Hope is acutely aware that the music students she teaches have grown up watching music as keenly as they listen to it.

"They are the MTV generation," she explains. "They've watched music with images most of their lives and when they go to a concert they very rarely just sit there listening to the band. There are usually video clips; they almost demand it.

"So what interests me is whether that visual aspect changes the way we hear music."
