Program note: Brigid Burke's "An Air on a Serpent for solo guitar"

Brigid Burke is an Australian composer, multi media artist, clarinet soloist, visual artist,
film maker and educator. She has performed extensively in solo and chamber recitals,
both nationally and internationally. Highlights in have been Music Marathon Boson,
Future Festival Paris, ABC Saturday Afternoon Sessions, The International Clarinet
Festival 2007&5 in Vancouver Canada and Tokyo Japan, 2007 Melbourne
International Arts Festival and performances in the Generative Art Conference GA06
&G07 in Milan Italy. Other performances throughout Australia with ensembles Tri Duo,
Carte Blanche, David McNicol and The Free Music Ensemble. She is currently a
recipient of an Australia Council Project Fellowship and has received many awards and
exhibited throughout Japan and Taiwan and Australia. Her most recent CD recordings
have been reviewed and broadcast internationally. The Performing Arts Board of the
Australia Council, Japanese Printing Corporation, ANAT, South Australian Govt.,
Australian Asian Foundation, Community Arts Centers and Universities have supported
Brigid in her performances, compositions and artwork. She has a Master of Music in
Composition from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Inspired by 16 century chord progressions, the sleekness of the serpent gliding and
the overtones and harmonics of reed instruments. This piece is to be played in a
subtle and lyrical manner, taking time over single line notes as little interruptions
throughout the work.
