Benjamin Britten’s dramatic cantata ‘Saint Nicolas’ (1948) depicts the faith, the miracles and the enduring legacy and legendary incidents in the life of the patron saint of children, seamen, and travelers. Gerard Finzi composed ‘In Terra Pax’ in 1954. A radiant, optimistic work of great beauty; the cantata is widely regarded as a miniature masterpiece and will be complemented by his charming ‘Eclogue for piano and String Orchestra’ featuring talented pianist Amir Farid. The haunting Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten was composed by Arvo Pärt as an elegy to mourn the death of Britten who Pärt greatly admired. The 50th anniversary of the death of celebrated Australian composer Percy Grainger will also be acknowledged with two of his most enduring and loved miniatures, Irish tune from County Derry and the famous setting of his Country Gardens for piano four hands.
