Event Details
100 voices — 100 years of searching for peace.
The Heidelberg Choral Society, with Orchestra and soloists conducted by Peter Bandy, present two major works reflecting on humanity’s ongoing search for peace despite the passing of one hundred years since the events of the First World War Battle of the Somme and fifty years since the pivotal battle of Long Tan in Vietnam.
The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace, premiered in London in 2000, is one of Karl Jenkins’ most popular works, and is among the most performed works by a living composer. The program also includes the premiere performance of a work commissioned especially for this concert, When the Bugle Calls by Nicholas Buc, winner of the inaugural Fellowship of Australian Composers Award.
This concert, with an associated photographic exhibition of images of the Somme, will be a significant reminder that our search for peace continues, and is a call to the whole world.
Presented by Heidelberg Choral Society and Orchestra.
