Event Details

Acacia Quartet explores new frontiers by commissioning internationally renowned jazz pianist and composer, Joe Chindamo, to write his first string quartet, Tempesta.

Chindamo, who is equally gifted as composer, arranger and improviser, is known to skate effortlessly between musical genres with integrity and inventiveness, creating a unique sound which eschews boundaries. The three works in the Out of the Box program extend boundaries of one kind or another. Golijov's Tenebrae uses divine, floating melodies to take his listeners on an otherworldly journey, Chindamo's Tempesta explores clever tonal, emotional and rhythmic interplay while Maurice Ravel's much loved String Quartet in F major uses beautiful French impressionistic effects and imitates the sounds of a Javanese gamelan orchestra.

Tickets: Full $45, Concession $35, Under 18 $10, Family $90. Tickets also available at door. Ticket price includes post concert reception with the musicians

Featured non-Australian music: Osvaldo Golijov - Tenebrae & Maurice Ravel - String Quartet in F major
