Event Details
Shostakovich’s two late enigmatic masterpieces, which bookend what promises to be one of the musical highpoints of 2011, were composed long after Stalin’s reign of terror, but their haunting themes and sardonic humour starkly reveal how the shadows of tyranny inspired Shostakovich until the end. The Ng twins perform the Australian premiere of Graeme Koehne’s concerto for two cellos, The Sleep of Reason, which enraptured audiences in New York’s Carnegie Hall during the ASO’s 2009 US tour.
