Event Details
Singers from six islands across the Torres Strait, the Ailan Kores, came together in 2011 to perform an evening of sacred choral music. On Thursday Island Ailan Kores performed with the Queensland Youth Orchestra in a celebration of the unity and diversity of Torres Strait culture. The combined voices performed a program of local hymns startlingly transformed to express their tradition of exuberant music worship.
The works will be re-interpreted again by composer Damian Barbeler and Alison Rogers returns to conduct Ailan Kores. With songs chosen from the Eastern, Central and Western language groups the choral works reflect the Torres Strait’s cultural and linguistic distinctiveness.
This performance is part of the Eighth International Congress of Voice Teachers.
