Event Details
A concert of two works which will take place in the West Recital Hall at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and feature the use of large bells constructed of high pressure gas cylinders. These bells will be combined with electric guitar, live electronics and other percussion.
First up will be a collaboration between the Ampere Quartet (electric guitar quartet consisting of Zane Banks, Jy-Perry Banks, Matthew McGuigan, Mat Kurukchi) and Steffan Ianigro (Sound Artist), exploring a sound world consisting of four electric guitars, high pressure gas cylinder bells and live electronics.
The following work will be by Alex Pozniak, composed for high pressure gas cylinder bells, percussion, guitars and electronics. The piece explores percussive actions, microtonality and polyrhythmic densities, based around manipulated recordings with literally millions of bells swirling around the gallery space. Performed by Alex Pozniak and Matthew McGuigan.
These high pressure gas cylinder bells originated from an installation which took place earlier this year by John Wright, Tim Hankinson, Steffan Ianigro and Nic Aplin. Footage of this installation taken and edited by Matthew McGuigan will be projected during the concert.
