Event Details
Antipodes 5tet (Jake Baxendale – alto saxophone, compositions, Ken Allars – trumpet, Luke Sweeting – piano, compositions, James Heazelwood-Dale – double bass, Aidan Lowe – drums)
This contemporary jazz band formed in Berlin early last year as a very special collaboration between Baxendale (NZ), Sweeting (Sydney) and Lowe (Berlin/Canberra). The lineup is completed by local luminaries Allars and Heazlewood-Dale. These are five young musicians gaining some serious local and international reputations.
9.30pm – Amphibious (Aaron Flower – guitar, Jamie Cameron – drums, Richard Maegraith – sax, Oliver Miller – cello)
They have been described by various audiences as a ride on a Persian carpet, and a night in an Opium den in Goa. Amphibious is a musical fantasy, successfully blending classical music, jazz and alternative/post rock to create often attempted but rarely so well-executed moments of third-stream ecstasy.
