Performing music that is both friendly and deep, three-time ARIA Award winning jazz pianist Andrea Keller returns to the Salon for a solo concert featuring work from her new album Family Portraits. Described as a daring and fascinating composer, Andrea produces work that surprises with its blend of traditional lyricism and improvisation. Family Portraits is a series of piano pieces composed by Keller in dedication to her ancestors and loved ones. An aural family tree, created from a desire to preserve the little that is known for her future generations. The pieces capture the love, humour and sadness of a small and geographically disparate family.
Since the release of her first album in 2000, jazz pianist and composer Andrea Keller has established herself as an important contributor to Australian jazz and contemporary music. Described as having "one of Australia's most consistently interesting musical minds" (Doug Spencer 2007), she has been the recipient of three ARIA Awards, three Australian Jazz 'Bell' Awards, an Art Music Award and two major fellowships.
Recorded at the MRC Salon in 2012, this concert marks the release of Family Portraits on the Tall Poppies label.
