ANDREW ROBSON’S CHILD BALLADS ALBUM LAUNCH (9pm)

The Child Ballads is a new project from award-winning saxophonist and composer Andrew Robson. Based on ballad texts from FJ Child’s iconic collection, The Child Ballads brings to life ancient folk tales of love, lust, treachery and murder. Andrew breathes new life into the lyrics of eight English and Scottish folk ballads. He is recognised as one of our most distinctive improvisers and composers, leading a number of his own groups and stepping in Ten Part Invention, after Bernie McGann’s after his retirement.

BREE VAN REYK + VERONIQUE SERRET (8pm) This new duo project from Bree van Reyk and Veronique Serret sees these two versatile and in-demand instrumentalists chart a new course for the rarely heard combination of vibraphone and violin. Both musicians are known for their extensive cross-genre careers, performing with artists and groups as varied as the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sarah Blasko, Ensemble Offspring and Gurrumul. van Reyk and Serret have crafted a new repertoire of original compositions, inspired soundscapes and intriguing improvisations drawing on these influences, which they will present alongside reinventions of J.S. Bach.
