Event Details

Join APQ as they inhabit the Faculty of Engineering and IT's fabulous Building 11, for a special performance in this dramatic and futuristic environment. APQ's impassioned music-making will cascade around the balconies and walkways of Building 11, in celebration and exploration of the relationship between sound and space.

Onwards and Upwards features a powerful new work by renowned Sydney Chamber Opera director Jack Symonds, which sees the quartet members diverge and converge in demonstration of the power of individuality and unity. Exploring a range of spatial properties, the textures, rhythms and yearning melodies of this exciting work perfectly reflect the contemporary setting of the performance.

Alongside this adventurous work, APQ presents two classic works that epitomise the Piano Quartet's tradition and history. Mozart's sublime Piano Quartet in E flat is the first major work for the medium, and emanates magisterial warmth, coy humour and ebullient spirit. In stark contrast, the pre-impressionist harmonies and poetic Parisian flavour of Faure's majestic Piano Quartet will enliven the senses and inspire reflection.

Mozart – Piano Quartet in E flat major, K.493
Nicholas Vines – "Dysart's Changelings"
Fauré – Piano Quartet in C minor, Op.15

Location: Level 2, UTS Building 11, entrance via cnr of Jones Street and Broadway, Ultimo

Featured non-Australian music: Mozart, Fauré
