Event Details
Australia Piano Quartet play the cornerstone of the piano quartet repertoire, Mozart’s K478
Mozart was the father of the piano quartet. In this concert, two Mozart masterpieces will be played alongside a 2016 commission by brilliant Perth-based composer Lachlan Skipworth.
Mozart’s K478 is a majestic work, capturing the breadth and resonance of an orchestra and the fragility of each instrument as a soloist. In addition to this cornerstone of the piano quartet repertoire, Australian Piano Quartet perform an 18th century arrangement of Mozart’s much-loved Quintet for Piano and Winds. This version uses the expressive character of string instruments to present the work in an enchanting new light.
Lachlan Skipworth’s piano quartet achieves a delightful synthesis of Japanese tonal colours set in a uniquely Australian landscape. Combining the ancient cultures of both Australia and Japan, this exciting premiere displays the piano quartet genre on an innovative and evolving contemporary canvas.
