Event Details
APQ illuminates intimate chamber music with youthful mastery, insightful musical conversation and impeccable balance. The players' passion for the piano quartet stems from their love of the extraordinary repertoire and the unique qualities of the ensemble itself: a synthesis of the soloistic sonority of a string quartet with the orchestral power of the piano.
JS Bach's monumental Goldberg Variations is considered one of the most significant works of all time and finds new life in this acclaimed string trio arrangement. Brahms' C minor Piano Quartet is considered to be the ultimate musical embodiment of his impossible, unconsummated love for Clara Schumann. Standing alongside these two masterworks is the world premiere of a major new work by Elliott Gyger, one of Australia's leading composers.
Repertoire
Bach: Excerpts from Goldberg Variations BWV 988 arr. String Trio (D.Sitkovetsky)
Gyger: New Work (2015 APQ Commission)
Brahms: Piano Quartet in C minor Op. 60 (1875)
Featured non-Australian music: Bach, Brahms
