Event Details
ACO2 connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, creating a combined ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance style.
The concert begins with exuberant music by the ever-popular Italian Baroque composer Vivaldi. Arguably Australia’s greatest composer, Peter Sculthorpe’s atmospheric music evokes Australia’s parched and awesome landscape. From the scorched to the ice-covered, with music inspired by the energetic folk fiddlers of Finland and then to Spain with a ‘Nocturnal Dance’ for the two Dons, ladies man Don Juan and delusional but romantic Don Quixote. ‘Serenades’ are to be played in the evening to delight and inspire romance, and Dvorák’s popular example does just that with its warmth and flowing melodies.
Featured non-Australian music: Vivaldi, Sallinen, Rautavaara, Dvorak
