Event Details

In their final concert for 2014 Queensland Conservatorium’s percussion ensemble Ba Da Boom will present a captivating performance of works by Griswold, Pateras, Kate Neal and Lou Harrison as part of Crossbows.

Focused equally on improvisation, new works and pre-existing repertoire, Ba Da Boom has become an important laboratory for percussion in Australia, performing new music by composers Liza Lim, Erik Griswold, Jennifer Fowler, Gerardo Dirie, Michael Askill and Gerard Brophy.

The ensemble has presented the Australian premiere of Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians, Reich’s Drumming at Brisbane Powerhouse, River Styx as part of William Duckworth’s I-Orpheus. Ba Da Boom devised and produced the four-hour event Meditation Drumming with drummer David Jones, and the three-day Reflective Resonances in conjunction with Brisbane’s Buddha Birth Day Celebrations. They were featured in the 2006 Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival in Melbourne, and toured to the first Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2009 in the USA.

Ba Da Boom has worked closely with leading percussionists Jan Williams, Fritz Hauser, Duo Vertigo, Karak, and has recorded extensively for ABC Classic FM.

Featured non-Australian music: Harison
