BackStage Music is an artist-run series of concerts in the inner city of Sydney. At each concert, BackStage Music presents an early career artist alongside an established artist or ensemble in back to back sets of innovative, challenging and exciting music. Join us in the hidden laneways of Darlinghurst @ creative space 99 for our inaugural 2017 BackStage Series. The first gig features Ensemble Offspring + Hatched.

Ensemble Offspring are champions of adventurous new music. Presenting music from seminal chamber work to free improvisation, alongside the creation of striking interdisciplinary productions, the group embraces open-minded music making of all forms.

In their BackStage program Ensemble Offspring veterans Veronique Serret (six-string electric violin) and Claire Edwardes (percussion/artistic director) meet their two 2017 Hatched Academy performers Kieran Welch (viola) and Luke Carbon (clarinet) head on in a program showcasing these 4 stunning musicians as soloists. Works by Missy Mazzoli, Kaaija Saariaho and locals Connor d’Netto and Chris Perren.

For the finale they all join forces for a toe tapping video work on which Perren wrote for the ensemble entitled ‘Dive Process’.
