Event
Bobby Gebert Trio and John Harkins Trio : Double Header
Event Details
Bobby Gebert is one of the most significant pianists in Australian modern jazz, making important contributions to straight ahead, hard bop and post bop styles as well being involved in the 60s avant-garde through his work with then avant wild child John Sangsterand a decade later with Phil Trelaor and Mark Simmonds. moving back to more structured forms Gebert was a part of the great Bernie McGann Quartet through the 80s and led his own trio through the next two decades.
Long time Australian resident John Harkins is originally from Chicago where he established himself playing at famous local jazz clubs like the Green Mill and Andy's. Harkins' pianistic heritage is the Chicago/Detroit tradition which produced so many great hard bop and post bop players such as Tommy Flanagan, Barry Harris, Kirk Lightsey and of the younger generation Geri Allen.
