Event Details
Works by Septimus Kelly, Edwards and Fauré.
Fauré’s deeply personal Piano Quartet No.2 in G minor is a work of searing passion, intensity and striking originality. Written in 1886, the quartet is firmly grounded within time-honoured classical structures whilst also paving the way for the impressionism of Debussy that was soon to follow.
Also on the program are Ross Edwards’ haunting Emerald Crossing, inspired by “the image of a canoe propelled slowly across a lagoon towards an island”, alongside the turbulent String Trio in B minor by Septimus Kelly, written in 1913 shortly before he was deployed to Gallipoli.
This concert is in tribute to Frank Lesnie, who emigrated to Australia from Warsaw in 1913 and enlisted in the AIF to fight under the Australian flag at Gallipoli.
Program:
Kelly
String Trio in B minor (1913)
Ross Edwards
Emerald Crossing
Fauré
