Event Details

A concert to celebrate Larry Sitsky's 80th birthday. This event is supported by the Australian National University School of Music.

Professor Larry Sitsky AM is a leading Australian composer, pianist and educator. He was born in Tianjin (China), of Russian-Jewish parents and came to Australia in 1951. Professor Sitsky was a founding member of the Canberra School of Music. He is currently an Emeritus Professor at the Australian National University.

Guihangtar is a duo comprising guitarist Le-Tuyen Nguyen and percussionist Salil Sachdev. The duo initially emerged as a potential collaboration incorporating the guitar and the Hang (a percussion instrument invented in Switzerland in 2000). However, Guihangtar’s maiden concert in 2010 evolved to include other percussion instruments as well. Guihangtar performs compositions and arrangements inspired by nature and traditional music not bound by cultural confines. Traditional melodic and rhythmic idioms weave with Western music exploring the technical and expressive dimensions of the guitar, enhanced with percussion instruments from various parts of the world, creating a distinct sonority. Guihangtar is an expression of tradition, innovation, and global interaction. Le-Tuyen Nguyen is a Teaching Fellow at the Australian National University School of Music. Salil Sachdev is Chair of Music at Bridgewater State University Massachusetts USA. Website: http://www.guihangtar.net/
