Event Details
Converge Festival is upon us again! Converge is a run of three nights where Sydney’s next batch of young improvisers rub shoulders on stage with some of Australia’s most respected musicians. Made possible by Sydney University’s larger Verge Festival, Converge gives students groups from the Sydney Conservatorium jazz program and main campus the chance to collaborate and perform with a jazz artist of their choice.
Band 1: (6-6:40pm) Oscar Henfrey – Drums (leader) Nick Ujhazy – Guitar Winston Weng- Bass Roshan Kumarage – Piano Chris O'dea – Saxophone Guest Artist: Matt Ottingon – Saxophone
I've been listening to Matt's music for a long time, through all of his various groups and ensembles. He writes great, fun tunes, not to mention his incredible ability as a sax player. We plan to perform of a mix of Matt's and student originals. We’ve chosen Matt because I’m really keen to see how he works through his creative and improvisational process plus receiving more of an in depth look into his music and hopefully his writing processes as well.
Band 2: Sydney Uni Jazz Soc Big Band (7-7:40pm) Guest Artist: Kevin Hunt - Piano
Performing some hard hitting Basie repertoire with the legendary Kevin Hunt!
