Event Details
Launching at the Melbourne Fringe 2017, welcome to the sound world of Ensemble Density — a new improvised music collective of eight leading Australian contemporary instrumentalists. The Scrap Museum at Bakehouse Studios is the ideal space to sit up close and experience Ensemble Density in its premiere performance. Each work in the hour-long program is based on a different room of a an imaginary old building — in one we stumble across a copy of C. J. Dennis’ 1917 satirical poem The Glugs of Gosh, and from another we hear the indistinct echoes of a long-forgotten mixtape. Acoustic instruments and subtle electronics bring to life the shapes and colours of the scores in a way that makes each performance a rare and immersive listening event. Audience members can enjoy a complimentary drink at the Dadaist-inspired bar and choose a comfortable spot at a table or sofa. Spaces are strictly limited, and bookings are essential.
Featuring:
Charles MacInnes (composer & musical director)
Tristram Williams (trumpet)
Tony Hicks (flute, bass clarinet)
Peter Neville (percussion)
Steve Falk (marimba)
Jeremy Alsop (bass guitar)
Helen Bower (violin)
Nikki Edgar (cello)
