Event Details
The Australia Piano Quartet (APQ) has been Ensemble in Residence at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) since 2012.
In addition to their exploration of canonic masterpieces of the piano quartet repertoire, the ensemble enjoys unearthing neglected works of past and present and championing the creation of new work, having commissioned over 20 new piano quartets from a diverse range of established and emerging Australian composers.
Double bass player Damien Eckersley joins the Australia Piano Quartet for a performance of one of chamber music’s most popular pieces, Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A, ‘Trout’. The composer didn’t employ the traditional quintet line up of piano and string quartet, opting instead to replace one violin with a double bass adding a depth, richness and rhythmic drive to the piano quartet texture.
