Event Details

Forenzics launch their fourth album Malign at the Record Crate in Glebe, Sydney’s unofficial home of outsider music and arts, on the 6th March 2015.

Forenzics’ line up will feature Matthew Syres and Dirk Kruithof on guitars, Joe Cummins on trumpet and electronics, Evan McGregor on drums, and Shahane Bekarian (RedCell Disorder) on large-scale improvised projections for what is sure to be a stunning, cinematic, synaesthetic journey down the rabbit warren. Joe has relocated to Melbourne so it may be a while before this lineup appears in Sydney again. Not to be missed.

Forenzics new album Malign was recorded completely live, without overdubs, edits or preconceived music over the space of one day on the 15th June 2012 and features drummer John Wilton, whose subtle yet fiery approach lends the eight tracks of darkly sublime and textured improvisations an openness, clarity and purposefulness previously unmatched in studio recordings from the band. Where previous album Build Ruins (released via ‘New Weird Australia’ in 2011) was noisy, chaotic, electronic and dense, Malign is subtle and bewitching, spacious, otherworldly and surprisingly listenable whilst still maintaining the band’s signature dark and atmospheric sound. Special guest for the evening will be Elsen Price, improvising on solo double bass. Elsen has shared the stage with such notable performers as Mike Patton, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Hunter and Bobby Singh as well as releasing solo material under his own name.
