Event Details

Step into the Hidden Sounds of Z Ward and be immersed in a unique sensory exploration!

Hidden Sounds will reflect echoes of the past, in the corridors and cells of this historic building; once home to the criminally insane. Wander through Rod McRae’s intriguing exhibition After-Life - a wunderkammer of taxidermy assemblages, while enjoying the sublime acoustics of the Z Ward over a glass of wine.

The evening’s unique performances include a mixture of percussion and electronic beats, curated by Helpmann Award winner, Gabriella Smart. Enjoy performances from sound artist, Christopher Williams’s radiophonic installation that draws on the history of the Z Ward. Others include three-piece percussionists Amanda Grigg, Andrew Penrose and Sami Butler performing works by Steve Reich and Belgian composer Thierry De May. Gabriella Smart will also be performing Alvin Curran’s Inner Cities No. 3 and from Erik Griswold’s Little toy piano book (2014) on a toy piano.

A program will be available on arrival for performance times and locations. Ticket includes admission to the only night viewing of After-life, multiple musical performances by world class musicians and a welcome drink.

Presented by the Australian Institute of Architects in partnership with Soundstream Collective and the National Trust of SA.
