For a night of exciting and accessible modern jazz, you can't go past this inspiring large ensemble.

“Judy Bailey directs a wonderful big band of younger musicians in a live performance… Judy will take you on a musical journey from the early days of jazz to the present with the wonderful Jazz Connection Big Band” Limelight Magazine.

Tonight, this leading ensemble will be presenting a set of new Bailey originals, and another set entitled "Tribute to the Trumpets" - featuring great compositions by great trumpet players! Come and experience a thrilling big band led by one of Australia's great pianist/composer and educators, Judy Bailey, in the vibrant atmosphere of a jazz club setting.

Judy Bailey (Musical Director): Since arriving from New Zealand, Judy has become one of Australia`s leading musical identities. In addition to a prolific career involving performance, recording, touring and teaching. Judy has received numerous awards, including the inaugural APRA award for Jazz Composition, an Australian Entertainment award for Jazz Performance, the Order of Australia Medal for services to Jazz and Education, and more recently, the Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music. Judy continues to teach at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Jazz Connection is part of the Sydney Youth Jazz Ensemble Inc, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the provision of high quality music for youth, under the musical direction of Judy Bailey. These young jazz musicians are drawn from throughout the Sydney region, most attending the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Jazz Connection plays a large range of music. From early Ellington to Basie, from Brookmeyer to Judy Bailey’s originals: Come and enjoy a musical journey from the early 1900s to the present, revisiting the great bands including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Thad Jones and more.This show is great for all ages – especially young budding musicians –to come and get a taste of what big bands are about.
