'Sax Journey through France, Japan, Finland & Australia'
A unique recital program showcasing the saxophone's diverse range of colouristic and special sound effects: bird-like sounds in Tanaka's Night Bird; Virtaperko's mesmerising and intense Crimes of the Past; and two of Katia's own compositions, First Light, depicting the gradual rising of the sun, and her very fast, technical showpiece, Turkish Dance (arrangement for soprano saxophone and piano).
Featured non-Australian music: 'Crimes of the Past' (2007) for alto sax & piano (Aus premiere) by Olli Virtaperko, 'Night Bird' (1996) for alto sax & tape by Karen Tanaka, 'Impressions d'automne' (1905) for alto sax & piano by Andre Caplet.
