Steve Barry Trio 8.30 – 9.30pm
Originally from Auckland but now a Sydney resident, Steve Barry, at 21 has quickly established himself on the local scene as a melodic improviser with an intense, highly emotional approach. He is the recipient of numerous awards including Most Outstanding Musician, Best Pianist and Best Composition at the Tauranga International Jazz Festival in New Zealand.
Kim Lawson Trio 10.00 – 11.00pm
Saxophonist Kim Lawson, originally from Queensland, is quickly establishing a reputation for his tenacious and inventive improvising and huge sound.
He may be a new face to many but in fact has been recording and touring in and around Sydney for 10 years with established groups such as Steve Hunter’s Nine Lives Project, Crusty Suite Case Band, Chuck Yates Trio and The Subterraneans. For this trio he has written a set of compositions that draw from jazz, classical, funk and various other sources, but which serve the band well in creating its own sound.
