Event Details
Toyokawa (East River) is a small city in central Honshu. Toyokawa Inari-jinja is both a Sōtō Zen temple and a Shinto Shrine to Inari, the Happy God. Zen monks also act as Shinto priests. In 1990, as one of the first international guests in Japan for the Lafcadio Hearn Centenary, I was noisily blessed there by the charming Præcentor, with a large cohort of musicians. The strong, eccentric rhythm near the beginning is derived from their music. Tonight, Michael Kieran Harvey will premiere the newly rewritten piece, introduced by composer, Dr Ralph Middenway.
