Event Details

TRICHOTOMY Acclaimed Brisbane contemporary music trio TRICHOTOMY feature a suite of new music in this performance leading up to the recording of their 5th album. Originally established in 1999 as the trio “Misinterprotato”, Trichotomy have become a leading figure in contemporary jazz in Australia.

This trio has carved out a reputation nationally and internationally as a unit with a distinct approach to music making, blending dense rhythmic interaction with an assured melodic clarity. Their last album “Fact Finding Mission” (2012) was a finalist in both the AIR and BELL awards for jazz album of the year, and highlight past performances include Jazzahead, Tokyo Jazz Festival, and tours to the UK, China, Argentina, Japan, plus extensively in Australia. In 2016 they record their 5th album featuring new material focusing on electronic manipulations of the acoustic trio and tour it in early 2017.

*This performance will also be recorded live for future release.*

THE VAMPIRES The Vampires are renowned for their blend of soulful jazz, old-school reggae, exotic Balkan melodies and all-out funk-laden Afrobeat. Combined with risk-taking improvisation, sophisticated compositions and an uncanny sense of dialogue and emotion between the sax/trumpet front line, the band defies these genres and have wrought a style of their own. Matt Smith has quickly become one of the most sought after guitarists of his generation. He has relentlessly toured around the world with artists including Thirsty Merc, Pete Murray, Karise Eden, and The Strides. Whilst Matt can burn on a blistering rock solo, he also has an impeccable jazz sensibility honed under studies with Jim Kelly at Southern Cross University in Lismore. Along with 10 years of playing with both Jeremy and Nick in the Strides, this will be a must-see collaboration.
