This anniversary program marks the occasion, 50 years earlier to the day, when the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra took part in the concert marking the opening of Sidney Myer's spectacular gift to the people of Melbourne, the Music Bowl which bears his name. From Berlioz' exciting march to the superb work by Melbourne-born composer Robert Hughes, this commemorative event will be a special celebration of one of the world's great outdoor venues. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is proud to present a faithful replica of the program of 12 February 1959 on the opening night of the Bowl's Golden Anniversary Bowl season. Gates open at 4pm, concert starts at 7pm.
