Event Details
This concert marks the Sydney debut of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus. From the 16th century to the current day, this program ranges from exquisite musical prayers of lamentation and appeal to Bach’s profoundly joyous motet for double-choir, Singet dem Herrn. In a co-commission between the MSO Chorus, Sydney Chamber Choir and London’s Elysian Singers, Paul Stanhope’s Exile Lamentations is a powerfully expressive setting of Biblical texts and the poems of exile by Palestinian writer Jabra Ibrahim Jabra.
Performers: Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Jonathan Grieves-Smith, conductor, Siobhan Stagg, soprano, Warren Trevelyan-Jones.
Featured non-Australian music: Schubert, Purcell, Lassus, Poulenc, Mendelssohn, Britten, Bach
