TMO Arouse The Italian To Celebrate Our 7th Birthday.
The Metropolitan Orchestra will celebrate our seventh birthday with music devoted to the colours of Europe. The performance will include Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony no 4, which was performed by TMO in our first ever concert performance.
The concert titled “The Italian”, has been designed to inspire the colours of Europe with a world premiere performance from acclaimed Australian Composer Sean O’Boyle AM based around Mendelssohn’s work titled “Fantasy on a Theme of Mendelssohn”. This will be followed by Strauss’ Horn Concerto no 1 featuring our very own Principal Horn, Michael Wray as soloist in what is known as one of the most demanding solo works written for the French Horn.
Feelings of a warm Italian evening will prevail inside Eugene Goossens Hall in the second half which starts with Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture. Written for Heinrich Joseph von Collin’s 1804 tragedy Coriolan, this arousing and emotional work sets the final musical scene of the evening with Mendelssohn’s Symphony no 4, Italian. The origins of Mendelssohn’s symphony derive from his tour of Europe where he was inspired by the colour and atmosphere of Italy. From its vigorous opening through to the lively conclusion, both audience and orchestra will be left hot and breathless on this cold Sydney winters night.
